VALUE TREND:
Involvement in culture and nature
KEY CONCEPTS:
primeval strength, exotic nature, African inspiration, nature and culture, excitement, a hint of mysticism, rhythm and rituals.
The theme for the winter of 2009 has also emerged from today’s huge interest in the environment and nature. This time it is the natural environment in faraway countries. Interest in these exotic natural settings is inextricably linked to interest in other cultures. This results in dark, warm and slightly mysterious interior design styles with plenty of space for hand crafted, ethnic products. A style of interior design with the richness of various cultures and an obvious link to the African continent. The look is dark and rich and yet softer than in previous years because dark brown often replaces black. Wood in various forms, structures and colors is important to this theme. The warm, vividly colored flowers add a primeval power to these dark interiors.
INTERIORS IN GENERAL
Color: dark, warm and rich shades of brown to which vivid color highlights have been added for an exotic look.
Material: wood is the most important material. Many different types and structures are used, both rough and smooth, shiny, tooled and patterned. Ceramics are also used, often with irregular structures. Textiles, woven materials, rubber, beads, tooled metal, natural nuts and fruits.
Shape: robust ethnic shapes with a hand crafted, often irregular appearance.
Pattern: ethnic patterns such as batik, wood carvings and tie-dye. Graphic bi-colored prints. Wood and hard fruits are decorated with carvings and notches.
ARRANGEMENTS
Color: warm, rich color combinations of vivid and deep, dark shades.
Shape: the shapes are varied and ambiguous. Ethnic highlights are often added to a natural look. These can include, weaving, knotting or dashes of painting.
Vase: robust vases, bowls and dishes in dark brown and in vivid, highlighting colors. Items of daily use or fruits are used as bases.
COLOR CHART:
the deep brown shades from the neutrals in the year color chart play the lead. The flower colors are chosen from the brights, with the addition of the occasional green and pastel shade.
