The tulip 'Laura Bush' was officially named during a ceremony held at the residence of mr. Boudewijn Eenennaam, the Dutch Ambassador in Washington.

The First Lady attended the ceremony in person and spoke of how honored she felt at having this lovely pink and white tulip named for her. The tulip was bred by Jan Ligthart of Breezand and was supplied by Blumex, Aalsmeer.

At the ceremony mrs. Bush was assisted by the chairman of the Royal Dutch Wholesalers Association for Flowerbulbs and Nurserystock, mr. H. Westerhof, who named the tulip with her.
