Magic of flowers
At a very young age he was inspired by the magic of flowers. That was in his godfather’s flower shop. Today, he runs his own company in New York, David Beahm Design. ''I’m primarily an event planner. You work with esthetic elements, with an eye for beauty and an eye for what the customer wants.''
Weddings as focal points
He has an impressive customer list – from the NY Philharmonic and Carnegie Hall to Lot 61 and Citibank. Thanks to David and his crew countless weddings, including that of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, have acquired that little bit extra. The challenge is to create something special every time. He clearly understands the reason for this. For many of his Jewish customers in particular, weddings are absolute focal points in ones lifetime. In a manner of speaking, mothers and daughters start preparing for the day from the moment of birth. That is the day when everything has to be perfect, including the flower arrangements.
Beauty that arrives on time
For this reason, he of course works with flowers from Holland. ''They are fresh, have a long vase life and offer noticeable quality. In our work it is extremely important that the flowers are at their peak of beauty at precisely the right moment.''
His preference for flowers from that small European country has not gone unnoticed. The Flower Council of Holland has sponsored various activities from David. For instance, they recently supplied him with materials to decorate a trade show for event planners, the BiZBash M&C Meeting and Event Style Show in New York.
High-quality craftsmanship
He has a secret wish someday to collaborate on a project with a Dutch colleague. This would in his opinion provide an excellent opportunity to see how the American and Dutch / European styles of flower design could co-exist. He enjoys visiting Holland, especially in the spring, so that he can visit to world-famous tulip fields. Of all flowers, the tulip is his absolute favorite. ''Because of its elegant form, its splendid colors and because the tulip has a mind of its own!''
