The new Calla ‘Avance’ is no exception to this statement. The sturdy stems, at least 35 inches long, with their slim, pure white trumpets, guarantee longing looks. An unusual feature is the fresh, slightly sweet fragrance, which is most predominant in spring. The flower has a good vase life of twelve days on average. It is comforting to know that the large flowered Calla comes from an experienced home. The Dutch breeder previously developed the well-known Callas ‘Ambiance’, ‘Avalanche’ and ‘Grace’.
Growers will be pleased to hear that the cut flower is less susceptible to the feared Erwinia bacteria, which means a better guarantee of supply continuity. Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Avance’ (Dutch auction code 105155) has been available at the FloraHolland auction since summer 2009. Up until March 2010 the weekly supply will be around 5000 stems, after which it is expected to rise.
