The color pink brings to mind images of tenderness, youth and romance. The same applies to Alstroemeria Primadonna, whose main claim to fame is its almost unmarked ‘baby’ complexion.

Primadonna is the first Alstroemeria with an almost monochrome flower – in this case pink. Even the cream colored throat exhibits hardly any stripes. The flower even shows color while it is still in the bud. The flowers do not curl back as they open, but remain smooth and flat. All these features are important for display in the shop. Vase life is excellent. The flower easily lasts 20 days and more.

Following the launch in May 2005 the demand for Primadonna rose rapidly. During 2005 more than 300,000 stems were sold at an average price per stem of 35 euro cents. This is more than 15 euro cents higher than the average of the Alstroemeria product group as a whole. By September 2006 the stem count had already reached 850,000. The price per stem was still 34 euro cents, despite the rise in supply. The forecast for 2007 is that even more Primadonnas will be sold. In short, the market remains receptive.

Alstroemeria Primadonna (Dutch Auction Code 24907) is supplied with a stem length of around 31.5 inches. When fully open the large flowered Peruvian lily reaches a flower diameter of 2.5 inches. The name Primadonna means ‘first lady’, and refers to the color, which is unique in the Alstroemeria assortment and even in the cut flower assortment as a whole.
