The main reasons for this success are because the flower heads are free flowering, highly uniform and have demonstrated an excellent resistance to transport damage.
The flowers of 'Vulcan Purple Picotee' are 'hard' and this paired with their compact leaves helps them to damage less often during transport or storage. The success of the launch is also partly due to its festive color pattern. The base of each flower is a fresh white and is highlighted by a blue-purple margin. The stems grow to be very uniform and the vase life of 'Vulcan Purple Picotee' is very good often giving an average of 13 days.
First supplied to Dutch auctions in the autumn of 2006, Eustoma (Lisianthus) 'Vulcan Purple Picotee' (Dutch auction code 28413) has now been continuously available at the Dutch auctions since May 2007. Since its first appearance at the auction, it has received a high price reflecting the immediate appreciation of the buyers for its strong attributes. Because of its high demand by the wholesale, supply volume has been increased this year. In the meantime Picotee has been nominated for the 2007 Aalsmeer Market Public Award. The product was also a Primeur at FloraHolland in 2006.
