Gracious is how we would describe Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Grace’. The spathe is generally no longer than 9 inches. The flower is a slightly smaller and more tapered compared to ‘Green Goddess’. Consequently it appears to be less fragile. The green color of the bract is brighter and the end result is a contemporary and fresh contrast of white and green. The color of the spadix is off-white.
The lovely looks of Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Grace’ go hand in hand with a noble disposition; this flower has an excellent vase life of more than six weeks. This is certainly an improvement in quality. The stem length will not be a source of disappointment, with an average length of between 35 and 39 inches. This Calla is more versatile than its cousin ‘Green Goddess’. This cut flower variety can also be used as a pot, container or garden plant but will only be grown for cutting purposes in the foreseeable future.
Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Grace’ (Dutch Auction code 25994) was first auctioned in reasonable quantities from August to November of last year. Supply availability dropped in December, January and February. Total sales in 2005 amounted to 22,000 stems at an average price of Euro 1.89. This is higher than the usual auction price for ‘Green Goddess’.
This year supply availability of Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Grace’ will be targeted at the last five months of the year. Supplies are expected to increase but the flower will continue to be exclusive for the time being. Efforts are underway to allow for cultivation of this product year round.
