It was bound to happen, a colored trumpet lily. The breakthrough came last year, with the arrival of ‘Pink Heaven.’ Since its market introduction more than 115,000 stems of ‘Pink Heaven’ have been sold.

These classical white trumpet shaped lilies are traditionally used for funerals.  As you can imagine, this is very limiting to the product category.   Therefore it was excellent news for the market when they learned that a breeder has at last successfully developed a new color. This longiflorum will finally have the opportunity to break into a market that will encourage the use of this flower both in funerals and for other events.

The acknowledgement of this breakthrough by market can already be seen.  Sales of the festive ‘Pink Heaven’ grew from 15,000 stems in 2006 to 80,000 stems last year. As of May, a total of 21,000 stems have been sold. The forecast for 2008 is that this number will increase strongly in response to the subtle color (dusty pink), the large trumpets and the strong, sweet fragrance that is so familiar in the white variety.

Lilium longiflorum ‘Pink Heaven’ (Dutch auction product code 27659) was nominated for the 2008 FloraHolland Cut Flower Award. The cut flower is available practically year round.

Successful market launch:Successful market acceptance of new cut flower.
