There is a well-known saying among Dutch florists that 'presentation creates desire.' This applies to the point of sale in the supermarket or the flower shop, but is just as applicable to the wholesale trade.

1.   An attractive, neatly-arranged cooler is great for sales. Group the flowers according to color and length. Neatly arranged rows are easy on the eyes and provide customers with an attractive overview.

2.   Arrange the flowers attractively and change the presentation on a regular basis. Have you no time or talent for such things? Than hire someone, such as a designer or customer, with a proven track record, for creating nice floral arrangements.

3.   Always make sure that there are sufficient varieties and novelties. This stimulates sales ('new' always sells) and enhances your image as a modern wholesaler that is progressive and changing with the times.

4.   The telephone can be a useful sales instrument, but it has its limitations. Personal contact with your customers at your facilities is important for presenting new products and to demonstrate your professionalism. Why not host regular in-house shows and invite your customers?

5.   Every detail is important. Be extremely critical.  Get rid of pots, vases and other accessories that are no longer in style and make plenty of room in your presentations for the very latest in pottery.

6.   Be honest with yourself. Take a long, hard, impartial look at your business at least once a week. What is the overall impression that it gives? Is everything still appropriate? Are the posters still timely? Is the lighting adequate and effective? Good presentations are a combination of boundless amounts of creativity and critically monitoring every detail.
