Color is Gerbera’s strong point. The wide variety of bright, fresh colors is proof of this.

Gerbera also stands for spontaneity, activity, happiness, strength and sociability. In short, a very special flower that deserves a prominent place in every shop and living room.

Care - wholesalers

  • The optimal storage temperature is 4 - 7 degrees Celsius. A low temperature is important, as it prevents continued growth of the flower stems in particular, limits evaporation and combats the growth of mould and bacteria.
  • Ensure that there is good air circulation in the cold room. This is especially important for mini Gerberas delivered in water. A low temperature prevents infection by Botrytis (mould).
  • Boxes of Gerbera are transported upside down from the grower to the auction. This is done to stop the stems continuing to grow, which would cause them to curve. It is also best to place the boxes upside down during transport and long periods of storage.

Care – In the shop
The optimal storage temperature for Gerberas is 4 - 7°C. When they arrive, the boxes must remain upside down, with the lid underneath. The best way to care for Gerberas after arrival is as follows:

  • Remove the staples and take the contents out of the box.
  • Slant cut the stems 2 to 3 cm from the bottom.
  • Place the flowers in clean water and add flower food. Suspend the Gerberas in the water for at least 4 hours.

As soon as the stems feel firm, the flowers can be processed.
If the stems absorb insufficient water or are not straight, it is advisable to twist a piece of wire around them. Gerberas that stand in the shop should be placed in water with flower food for maximum vase life.

Care – At home
Fill a clean vase with clean water. Whether the vase contains only Gerberas or mixed bouquets , add flower food.
