Family
Chrysanthemums belong to the Asteraceae family.

Varieties

In addition to spray Chrysanthemums we also have disbudded and Santini Chrysanthemums. Madiba is a newcomer and has even smaller flowers than the Santini. We also differentiate between greenhouse and field grown Chrysanthemums.

Tips for care

During storage:

  • Chrysanthemums can be stored dry in boxes.
  • The ideal storage temperature is 46.4-50°F.
  • Pre-cooling is recommended after re-packing.

During transport:

  • Chrysanthemums can be transported dry in boxes.
  • The ideal transport temperature is 46.4-50°F.
  • Pre-cooling is essential after repacking into larger volume units for transport.

In the shop:

  • Store in clean water and clean buckets.
  • Cut a piece off the stems before putting the flowers in water (1 inch is sufficient). Use a sharp knife and remove the bottom leaves.
  • Make sure no leaves are hanging in the water.
  • Use cut flower food.
  • The ideal storage temperature is 46.4-50°F.

In the home:

  • Allow the Chrysanthemums to have a good drink of clean water (still in their wrappers).
  • Use clean vases that have been sterilized with bleach. Glass vases are easiest to clean.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut about 1 inch off the stems.
  • Remove any excess leaves to ensure none are left hanging in the water.
  • Put the Chrysanthemums in clean water containing cut flower food. Chrysanthemums will keep well in water, however if cut flower food is used they will be fuller and last even longer and the water will stay clean longer.
  • Replace the water once a week cutting another piece off the ends of the stems each time.
  • Never place Chrysanthemums in full sunlight.
