During storage:

  • The ideal storage temperature is between 42 and 46°F.
  • Always store Ranunculus in water and check the water level regularly, Ranunculus is a thirsty flower.
  • The stems must be kept upright. The flowers grow towards the light and will start to curve if stored or transported horizontally.
  • Storing and transporting the flower in the dark slows down the flowering process.

In the shop:

  • Remove the wrapper to prevent excess humidity around the flower. The leaves are soft and can be damaged in the wrapper. As long as the flowers are wrapped there is a great danger of botrytis infection, especially on any damaged flower parts.
  • Remove any infected flowers from the batch.
  • Diagonally cut the stems.
  • Use clean buckets and fresh water. Never leave Ranunculus without water, they are very thirsty flowers.
  • Add cut flower food to the water to keep it clean, this also reduces the risk of yellowing leaves.
  • Check the water level regularly as these flowers can evaporate a great deal of water. It is essential to use clean water otherwise vascular blockages can occur in response to the development of bacteria.
  • Ensure that humidity is low.
  • Never display Ranunculus in drafty conditions, as the flower will evaporate too much water.
  • The ideal storage temperature for Ranunculus is between 42 and 46°F. If the flowers are stored in warmer conditions development will speed up.

In the home:

  • Diagonally cut the stems and place the flowers in a clean vase filled with fresh water.
  • Add cut flower food to the water to keep it clean; it reduces the risk of yellowing leaves, extends the vase life and ensures the flowers open properly.
  • Ranunculus needs a lot of water. Check the water level in the vase regularly.
  • The cooler and darker the spot you can give Ranunculus, the longer its vase life will be.
  • Keep the flowers out of drafts.
  • Before the flower has fully opened the bud will close at night and reopen the next morning.
  • Ranunculus grows about 2 inches in the vase. This means that the stems soften. (The cells grow by stretching.)

The many different shades of color make this the ideal flower for mono-bouquets.
