The Dutch floricultural sector enjoys a good reputation with foreign importers and florists. This good reputation involves every link in the distribution chain – from breeding through propagation and cultivation to the auction, the exporter and the wholesale trade.

Careful selection is applied as early as the breeding stage, taking account of quality aspects such as durability and transport resistance. The floricultural sector cooperates with certification and training bodies to develop quality programmes such as MPS-Florimark, the ultimate certification for floricultural nurseries. The Dutch grower does his work with respect for mankind and the environment. MPS-Florimark Production, the international certification organisation for horticulture, exists to ensure independent monitoring of these aspects.

The participating organisations keep careful records of their consumption of energy, fertilisers and pesticides, separate their industrial waste and pay extra attention to the working conditions within their companies. The approved traders pay careful attention to the reliability of deliveries, information on origin, quality maintenance, product knowledge, climate conditioned transport, service, incoming and outgoing goods controls and improvement and complaints management. All the organisations are regularly audited by independent bodies.
