Amaryllis is available in more colours than you might realise. It’s not just red and white but pink, orange, salmon and even two-coloured varieties. They certainly make an impact and can’t be missed in your designs – they can create that ‘wow’ factor.
9Your customers can expect to have the joy of them for 2 weeks in the vase at home and with staggered bud opening, they keep that wow factor coming! In fact, Amaryllis are strong on impact and simple to care for.
And they’re not just for Christmas; they are available from September right through until March so perfect for Valentine’s and Mother’s day too.
Simple to care for
Buy when some colour is showing on the buds
Store them between 5 – 10C – any lower than that and the blooms become discoloured
Remember that the flower buds can be slow to open, so stand them in water for a few days to ensure they are beginning to open for special occasions and designs in general
Stem ends tend to curl when you stand in water but this won’t affect their ability to take up water. And you could use this tendency as part of your design
Or you can sellotape the base of the stem to help strengthen it and insert a stick into the hollow stem to keep it straight
Remember the flower heads make these stems top heavy so make sure you support in a sturdy vase
