1. Advertise on a chalkboard in the window a specific day and time when you will be making a simple vase arrangement - Watch us make this for just £10 here at 11 for the next 4 Thursdays
2. Produce an ‘Impress your Friends in just 15 Minutes’ flier perhaps along the following lines
Impress your Friends in 15 minutes
a. Choose a ‘hero’ or focal flower and select a vase that is colour matched
b. Cut all stems with a sharp knife never scissors and always at an angle so that they can drink the water in the vase
c. Foliage, whether fine grass or dramatic large leaves, will add impact and scale to your designs
d. Either tie your stems together …
e. … Or use floral foam to stabilise your design and push the stems as deep into the foam as you can
f. Give it your own personal touch by adding coloured wire, beads, ribbon, anything that picks up the style and colour of your home or chosen room
Print these fliers from your PC and give freely to all customers, maybe with a ‘5 free stems with this voucher’
These are just ideas, play around and change them as you see fit for your customers
3. Create a clear and spacious window, and have a simple table display – ‘From this to this in just 5 minutes, let us show you how NOW’ – a vase and stems lying flat next to the finished article
4. Use your window to show simple yet dramatic single or double stem presentations in appropriate containers and how a few tricks of the trade add the wow factor – e.g. vertical cutting of Amaryllis stems so they curl upwards or even hanging the same flower vertically and filling the stems with water; 2 o r 3 orchid heads under water in a fish bowl; wiring Gerbera to give them shape movement and drama. Run SPECIAL OFFERS on these sundries inside the shop and carry extra stock so the promotion is very visible
5. Show a range of containers covered in different leaves or maybe the knack of covering test tubes and hanging them outside of containers. This will also help you communicate the benefits of longer lasting and higher priced flowers such as Gloriosa
6. Most florist and most mums too can probably plait hair so why not apply the same technique to grasses and leaves. Get your whole team to come up with a plaited idea, show them in the window, on the counter and give live demos in your shop
7. Run simple yet clear container, vase and, say, 9 stem pre-priced promotions all of which are accompanied with a printed suggested design and SIMPLE construction tips e.g.
a. Start by cutting all stems to the same length, then cut again into 3 different sizes – each size shorter by say 10 cms
b. Starting with the longer stems tie them together with raffia, then add the next length and so on
c. Finally tie a suitable grass – bear or steel – to the finished article
8. Have a simple and distinct area in the shop and run a ‘Pick and Mix any 10 stems for just £x together with a special offer container. This could be colour themed for 4 consecutive weeks, ensuring the container matches the chosen flowers. For example:
i. White Flowers and Black containers
ii. Exotic Reds and clear glass
iii. Mixed colours with striped vases
iv. Zinc and purple/blue varieties
