| Novelty: Ganoderma lucidum Lingzhi | < back |
| The Lingzhi has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 4000 years. At last the time has come for its breakthrough as an ornamental item. |
After all the ‘mushroom of immortality’, as the Lingzhi is also called, has a very unusual appearance. It actually consists of two parts, a tiny limewood trunk bearing several dark brown mushrooms. The mushroom grows naturally on deciduous wood but is extremely rare in the wild. Following long and arduous research it has now become possible to cultivate the Lingzhi as a plant. Initially the mushroom is soft and pale coloured. As it ages and grows larger the soft parts become woody and the colour darkens. It needs very little care, spray a mist of water over the leaves and trunk once a week. The plant prefers a poorly lit spot. The arrangement is no longer light dependent but direct sunlight should be avoided.
