Amaranthus
Remove most of the leaves from the stems. Slant cut the ends and leave in a cool place for several hours to drink their fill of water. Use water containing cut flower food.
Quercus
Do not leave the stems too long without water. Slant cut the ends using a strong, sharp knife. Stop any leaves from hanging in the water. Stand the stems in fresh water containing flower food.
Anthurium
Never store in the cold room, exposure to temperatures below 15°C can cause blue discolouration. 18°C is the ideal storage temperature. Handle the flower with care as any damage will turn black.
Rosa
Good care is crucial to good flowering. Never leave without water. Use a clean vase and slant cut the stems with a very sharp knife. Do not remove the thorns as this can damage the stems. Cut flower food is essential.

Chrysanthemum geplozen
The bags on the flower heads can be removed more easily if they are moistened using a plant spray. Damage will cause the entire flower to disintegrate. The vase must be very clean. Slant cut a piece off the stems using a sharp knife.

Epipremnum
The plant is sensitive to draughts. Variegated cultivars need plenty of light otherwise the foliage will turn uniformly green. Avoid full sunlight. If the plant becomes too bushy, the shoots can be cut back. Avoid strong temperature fluctuations.
Cotinus
Do not leave the stems without water for long periods of time and slant cut the ends. Both vase and water must be really clean. The leaves soon droop in the sun. Use special shrub plant flood.

Ficus
Temperature fluctuations will lead to yellowing and leaf loss. Variegated Ficus needs more light than green Ficus. The more light and warmth, the more water is needed. Feed once a fortnight during the growing period. The plant can be pruned. If milky sap is exuded this can be stopped with ash.

Eucharis grandiflora
The flowers will thrive best in clean water containing special food for bulb flowers. The stems will close up after five days and need to be cut off regularly. Remove any old bracts to help all the buds to open.
Hedera
The plant can tolerate a fairly dark spot although the variegated cultivars need more light. Dislikes high temperatures and hates dry air. Water once a week, leaving the soil to dry out regularly in between.
Gladiolus
Fresh water and a clean vase are essential for full flowering. Replace the water regularly. The flowers will open better if the tip of the spike is removed, although this does detract from the flower’s ornamental value. Store upright, gladioli grow towards the light.
Schefflera
Moderation is the magic word for Schefflera, not too warm, not too light and not too dark. Only use water at room temperature and do not water too much as this can damage the roots. Repot at least once a year. Use a cane or a moss stick for support.
Lilium
Leave the flowers in their wrappers for several hours to absorb water until the stems are fresh and firm. Lilies are sensitive to ethylene. Cut flower food will improve flowering.

Tillandsia
This is a real tropical plant, it loves the heat and high levels of humidity. Keep out of full sunlight in summer, but give plenty of light in winter. Keep the soil fairly dry and feed once a fortnight. The plant only flowers once.

Physalis
Very long vase life with proper care. Slant cut the stems and add cut flower food to the water.
