Contrasts are disappearing not only in our way of thinking and dealing with things, but also in how things are designed. We want greater harmony in our surroundings. This is being expressed, for example, in the use of softer materials and the clear presence of grey. Since we are currently emerging from an era of colour contrasts, the transition to a grey environment can take some getting used to. Flowers offer the solution, especially simply arranged one-colour bouquets that provide temporary colour accents within a tranquil harmonious setting. Not a boring grey, but a grey livened up with the lustre and colour of flowers. The leading role here is reserved for the Gerbera, chosen because of its simple flower shape and almost infinite range of colours.
INTERIORS: GENERAL INFORMATION
Colours: bright accents of colour are added to a range of greys. This colour chart shows the bright colours selected – ones in which the Gerbera varieties are available. Accessories in purple and turquoise might be added as well.
Materials: warm, natural materials. The textures of the materials are also important and they are combined to show off their contrasts. Unglazed and high-gloss ceramics, concrete, stone, felt, plastic, transparent and coloured glass, unfinished wood.
Shapes: the shapes used are unfussy, simple, compact and easy to interpret.
Patterns: few patterns are used in this theme in order to emphasise the texture of materials.
ARRANGEMENTS
Colours: the arrangements are made using a single colour. In making bouquets, it is important to choose products with very similar colours.
Shapes: powerful, clearly defined, compact shapes that can easily be seen as geometric.
Vases: the vases used for this theme play a subordinate role and should merge visually with their background.
COLOUR CHART
The greys in the main colour chart provide the basis for the colour theme, these are accented by all the bright colours provided by flowers. The result is an exciting interplay between the grey background and the intense colour of the flowers.
