Getting your hands dirty and baking bread yourself. As a reaction to our hectic lives, what we need is tranquillity, health and natural surroundings. Farmers are no longer considered manual labour or of a lower class but instead they are modern-day heroes. They have exactly what all of us want, a unity with nature, independence, and a free lifestyle. Authentic naïve products with a rustic primitive look catch our attention. But dusty nostalgia is not what we want either, we want a fresh modern environment with a touch of folklore. Real, genuine and honest. The leading role here is reserved for a sturdy flower found in many a country garden, the lily. As a bulb plant, its connection with the earth and soil seem closer!
INTERIORS IN GENERAL
Colours: a wide choice of natural tones combined with rugged denim colours and the typical folklore colours of red, white, yellow and pink.
Materials: natural and romantic materials such as wood (unfinished or painted), zinc, tin, pewter, enamel, smooth and rough-textured ceramics, jute, leather and twine.
Shapes: rugged, robust and authentic.
Patterns: typical folklore patterns or rough natural patterns similar to paint streaks, footsteps or tyre tracks.
ARRANGEMENTS
Colours: a good balance between natural and folklore colours.
Shapes: a wide variety of shapes. The materials determine this theme much more than shapes.
Vases: strong or nostalgic. Make a deliberate effort to search for new kinds, don’t use familiar shaped vases.
COLOUR CHART
As a starting point, a series of natural neutrals were chosen from the colour chart. Bright colours, pastels and toned-down colours are added as accents.
