Tips: more energetic plants
Plants that have (sub) tropical origins often have poor resistance to hard tap water. The calcium in the water upsets the acidity (pH) of the potting compost and can leave ugly white marks on foliage after spraying. Your water company can tell you the exact degree of hardness of the water in your area. If your tap water is hard you should try to water your plants using rainwater or water that has been softened which is simply boiling tap water and leaving it to cool down. Just boil extra water whenever you make tea!

Let’s grow
Free growing shoots of Acorus gramineus ‘Variegatus’ (9011) almost seem ready to leap out of the lamp shade that decoratively hides the pots
