My Anthurium: William Heijl, buyer < back

Why have you specialised in Anthurium?
Anthurium involves relatively small volumes. Our specialisation means that we are able to know all there is to know about this market and have been able to build up a comprehensive network of growers. We also provide logistical services between growers and exporters. The exporters know that they can buy virtually any variety from our firm, the Hoekhuis Flower Group.

Do you also supply pot Anthurium?
No, we have specialised in cut flowers for the experts, i.e. florists who appreciate the value of Anthurium in terms of looks and utility.

Where do you sell?
Our most important customers are in Germany, Italy, France and England. However, the new EU-member states are also making themselves heard. We are able to reduce logistical costs for them by packing more stems to a box.

Does the preferred flower size vary?
Yes, it varies from country to country. Italy and Germany like their flowers big, whereas the smaller flowers go to countries such as Spain and Portugal.

Which varieties are the current favourites?
Distinctive colours are in greatest demand, clear red, hot pink and the green shades are all popular. In my opinion the variety ‘Morano’ is a promising newcomer.

What is important when it comes to storing Anthurium?
Anthuriums are very sensitive to cold and so should not be kept in the cold store. Some growers pack the flowers in transparent flowpacks, which ensure that the flowers are not subjected to any direct air flow.

Tip: Handy packaging
A new invention means that Anthuriums can now be packaged more easily and safely through Flowerfix®. The flowers are fixed to a card in threes or fours with no more need for adhesive. This means that Anthuriums can be offered for sale in smaller quantities and makes them easier to unpack. It goes without saying that each flower has its own water supply in a vial.
